Dear memebers,

I am pretty new to CRSP data and encountered the problem that I found entries in my dataset with the SIC Code equal to “Z”.

The handbook says that missing values are coded to 0 (zero), and there is no mentioning of SIC Codes equal to “Z”.

So my question is: What does this SIC Code = “Z” entry mean?

hi,

The ‘Z’ is how a missing value can be displayed, see http://www.wrds.us/index.php/forum_wrds/viewthread/71/

I also remember missing SIC codes to be 0, but I suppose that the SIC code may also be missing (hence the ‘Z’).

Hope this helps,

Joost
