Hi,

I am new for Compustat. I will very appreciate if someone can help me with the issue.

I am looking for industry-level annual sales data in compustat (annually update)

Method 1: According to the previous thread on the Wrds forum (market share calculation), it seems I can construct the total industry sales by aggregate the firm-segment sales as suggested in the thread.

Method 2: However, I also noticed that you list a dataset named as Industry Specific Annual.
(Home/Get Data/Compustat/North America-Annual updates/Industry Specific Annual)
It seems I can get industry annual sales data directly from this dataset, but I am not sure about this.

I only need a measure of industry annual sales.
So should I just use method 2 (if it works)?

Thanks for your help.

Jerry

hi Jerry,

Do you mean this dataset? https://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu/wrds/tools/variable.cfm?library_id=129&file_id=65954

The variables here all seem to reflect industry specific performance measures, such as #aircrafts in service etc. If you need ‘normal’ sales data, I doubt this dataset will be any better, as it is still by firm year, and not aggregate at the industry level.

Best regards,

Joost
