Quick way**,

Get the 6 digit CUSIP from SDC, then go to WRDS, use CUSIP in subscriptions, then use issue on the left side column under the CUSIP & General heading.

Then select Issuer_Num (6 Character)> then upload your file (Notepad or whatever you are using) > then select Issuer Number > select Issue Number > & select CUSIP check digit (in the box under the first box with the heading “Securities Information”. (Preferably also select CUSIP (8 character) & Ticker.

Then in excel just use a function to first add zero before the missing zero’s for the CUSIP 8 or CUSIP 6. Later use an excel function to add Issuer No., Issue No. & CUSIP check digit. Or you can just add the CUSIP Check digit to the CUSIP 8 digit and vola you successfully have your CUSIP 9 digit.

**Use filter on excel to only show you the issue number 10. Which means the first issue. However if the companies you have more than one digit you might have a merging problem but you can work around it.
*Perform checks on your data after merging to make sure.

Hope this helps although its not too detailed but can give you a good insight. All the best & goodluck.

Lastly I would like to thank Dr Monika Tarsalewska for data help, helpful insights & valuable suggestions & Laura Rodriguez for helping me with excel functions.
