Hi joost,
I encounter a problem when I replicate a paper with international data. The paper uses the Global Vantage Industrial/Commercial (IC) files. And they list the item number. For example, the income before extradinary items is IC 32. I wonder where can I find the data item number?
Best,

hi Xinjiao,

I have a Compustat manual from 2003, which uses data item numbers (before the current X-pressfeed system). It seems that the Global Vantage codes are from a period even before that. (income before extraordinary items does not match IC 32). From what year is the paper? (before 1980’s?)

best regards,

Joost

Ball et al.(2000) says the earnings before extradinary item is IC data 32. The title of their paper is “The effect of international institutional factors on properties of accounting earnings”.

hi,

I didn’t realize it was for international data. I have trouble finding info on this database. I.e., I can’t find where it is sold or a data manual.

best regards,

Joost

Hi Joost,

I am not sure if this is the same thing, but there is a crosswalk between the legacy item numbers and the new data item names. You can find it here:
