Hi,

I need to get the following information for all uk firms:
a) actual eps
b) last EPS consensus forecast
c) number of analyst following a company at the last EPS consensus forecast
d) Industry P/E ratio at fiscal year end

Can anyone provide me with some help on which IBES datasets to use.

Thanks in advance.

hi Alves,

On WRDS, I would start with the dataset ACTPSUMU_EPSINT: http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu/wrds/tools/variable.cfm?library_id=40&file_id=53650

Where ‘ACT’ stands for actual (meaning, the actual eps is included); SUM means summary (=consensus), U means unadjusted (for stock splits, etc), which is cleanest, EPS means eps forecast data (and not dividend/sales/cash flow forecasts), INT means international

The table also includes variable PRICE.  Note that the table needs some filtering (you need to decide when to measure the forecasts during the year, and select a year/quarter as analysts issue forecasts for multiple periods. It probably makes sense to pull out the records for 1 firm and see how the data looks like.

Best regards,

Joost

Thank Joost,

I’m using WRDS & SAS.

a) I got actual EPS from ACTPSUMU_EPSINT

b) Last forescast I can get from statsumu_epsint, for each firm fpedats, I will select the last forecast based on statpers. For some companies, the last forecast happens before the FYE

c) for the observation in b) I will get numest.

How does it sounds?
thanks

hi PA,

I would go with the consensus forecast prior to the earnings announcement date. Make sure the latest doesn’t statpers doesn’t go beyond the earnings announcement date, though.

I didn’t check if it is this table, but the earnings announcement date is also in IBES. By putting a filter that the stapers is between 1 and 40 days of the announcement date, and then taking the last one will give you the consensus closes (and before) the announcement date.

best regards,

Joost
